What is this? #747898

Asked May 04, 2021, 11:34 AM EDT

I was wondering if you could help me identify what I think is a weed. It grows at the base of a cottonwood tree and gets quite kart, but doesn't seem to flower.

Wayne County Michigan

Expert Response

Sorry, it should read 'it gets quite large', not 'kart'!

This appears to be motherwort, Leonurus cardiaca.  It does get quite large before it puts out light pink flowers along the stem.  Attached are a few links with some additional photos and information.
