Bees in my house #747438

Asked May 02, 2021, 5:13 AM EDT

Good Morning,

I discovered a large number of dead bees (estimate more than 100) in my sunroom yesterday. They were not there Sunday so it appears to have happened during the week.

I’m not sure of the type of bee, how they got in and if they have friends who will be coming next.

What should I do? Thank you.

Expert Response

This does not look like a problem colonizing bee, but beneficial pollinating native bees.  We are not able to identify the species (there are dozens.)  However, we are able to say they would not be aggressive.

They were near the windows, trying to escape.  They do not want to be in your home and only accidentally ended up there.  You will probably not see more, but if you do, trace back to see where they are coming from.

Examine the exterior of your home and repair or plug up any cavities or openings you find.  Those are an invitation to real problem insects or other critters getting in.
