Hi,
I am looking at taking all of my rock gardens out, to prevent insane weed picking and obnoxious weed sprays. I am thinking of replacing it all with creeping thyme, because it is edible, safe for pets, and easy to maintain. From what i read, it is not invasive. Is this true?
Is there anything I should know? We have a long driveway, and it is along the whole driveway, about 6 feet. We have a concrete 5 inch decorative barrier between the lawn and the rock. Will this keep the thyme in from spreading to the lawn?
Thank you!

Hello Jana,
Happy to help.
Yes, creeping thyme is great! It's even green through the winter under the snow. It'll take time to fill in, though. The barrier should work to keep it contained but if there's even a bit of soil, the plant can root. It'll spread out farther than where it roots but that's why it's so beautiful - the edges are random. Those edges should just stop pressing onward as long as there is nothing for the plant to put down roots.
