Hello! Some critter is digging up my grass I don’t know what it is and how to stop it. I thought it may be grubs, but I don’t see white grubs when I turn back the grass. I raked away the dead grass and planted grass seed this evening, but want to make sure I get to the source of the problem

Hello Nancy,
Those look to be really big mounds but the photos don't give much information about what creature is doing this. Here is a link to a diagnostic that you could use to determine what the creature is.
If you're unable to determine what it is from the diagnostic or even if you are, I recommend hiring a wild animal specialist to evaluate your situation and make recommendations.
Your approach to restoring the grass may work but if there is air underneath a shallow layer of soil, it may not thrive. Pressing down the hills should help especially once the creature is removed.
