tree in my yard? #745826

Asked April 23, 2021, 10:09 AM EDT

Hi! This is growing in my pard and I don't know what it is. Can you identify it for me? It might be a plant, but looks more like a tree. Thanks! Donna Poplawski Caledonia, MI

Expert Response

Hi Donna. It is definitely a tree. I'm not sure if it was planted or from a seed that ended up there, but it is too close to your house. I'm guessing it a pear based on their invasive nature. Look around and see if you notice any in the surrounding area. I've attached a few resources for you to compare.

Thanks-you so much! We have a field behind our house with lots of wild growth.  I wandered through there and found a similar looking tree.  So I cut down the tree by our house.  Thanks so much for your quick response.  I feel better now that I cut it down...I was worried it might be too close to the house.

Yes, it is unfortunate how invasive they have become. Take care and thank you for using Ask Extension.
