Protecting against cicadas #745068

Hello, What plants, shrubs and trees should I protect from cicadas? What should I use and what methods are the best? Thank you, Cathy Schilling

Hello and thanks for letting me help you answer you cicada question.  Older trees should not be hurt by the cicada’s but you should avoid planting very young trees until the fall. If they are already in ground, and if you have shrubs you may want to protect them with some netting that the holes are about 3/8 “ or 1 cm.  Also remember, they do not eat the tree.  It is the females slitting the bark to lay eggs that drains sap.
