we have patches of grass in our lawn that we don't necessarily want. I included some photos and would like to know what species of grass they are and should I get rid of them and if so, how?

It looks like foxtail. I cannot tell from a photo which variety. Is this plant a weed? : Garden : University of Minnesota Extension (umn.edu) For small patches, digging it is the accepted method. For chemical control, go to this link and click on the number behind the product and it will explain what that product is.
