clover #744553

I want to plant clover in my lawn. All I can find on your website is how to kill it. Do you have information and guidance on organic lawns and varieties of clover suitable for growing in Henrico county.

Expert Response

Virginia Cooperative Extension does not have any publications on the use of Micro-clover at this time.  Our colleagues in University of Maryland extension have done some work on micro-clovers in the lawn.  That information can be found here: https://extension.umd.edu/resource/lawns-and-microclover

Thank you,

I was not asking just about the micro clovers, how about any clovers to be mixed in with our lawn?

I am asking to see if there is one type that does best in central Virginia.

Does the extension have any information on organic lawn care?

Thank you,

Emer

I reached out to our turfgrass specialist on campus and this was his response regarding clover:  dutch white clover is what i would recommend if the area will still periodically be clipped... it does NOT like traffic, however, so any of the clovers have to be used in low traffic situations
He also provided me with the attached publication from Cornell on the use of dutch white clover.

As for organic lawn care, our SMART Lawns publication outlines organic lawn care on pages 20-21.  You can access that publication here: https://henrico.us/assets/SMARTLawnsBooklet-RevisedMarch2019.pdf
