We had to have one trunk of a triple birch removed last summer. This spring the sap has run for over a month and now has a slimy pinkish covering. Will it harm the other trunks? Do I need to take any corrective action?

Expert Response
Hello, Reid, happy to help.
No, there's no need to worry about that. You may see some ants or other insects checking it out. They may help clean it up a bit but they're not going to do any harm. Eventually, it'll blacken up on the cut side.
Good-luck!
