Ive just discovered numerous dirt protrusions in my beds and under a wood deck. When I loosen them from the soil, there is a perfectly formed cylinder inside which looks like an insect of some kind may have lived. What are these and should I be concerned? (Photos attzched)

Good afternoon, these look like the mud chimneys created by cicada nymphs. We do have an emergence coming up, but nothing to be worried about unless you've recently planted very young trees. Here is a factsheet for more information: https://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/ENT-58
