Plant ID - Lilly of the Valley? #744330

Asked April 14, 2021, 2:41 PM EDT

Hello! I'm trying to ID the plant in the attached pictures. I'm worried it's Lilly of the Valley - we have a toddler who is still hell bent on putting everything in his mouth, and loves finding flowers/plants to show me. We just moved into our house and the previous owners don't know much about the yard. If it is Lilly of the Valley, can I eradicate myself or is it recommended to hire a professional? Thank you! -Rayna Fox

Expert Response

It does look as though it might be lily of the valley, although it's hard to tell at this early stage.  You can eradicate the plant by digging carefully so that you capture all of the roots.  Some people really like lily of the valley, so you may be able to give it to someone to use in the garden.  If you're looking for chemical control, a product containing glyphosate should kill the plant.
