Is it okay to mulch my fruit trees with wood chips? They are at least 4 years old.

Yes, mulching with wood chips is very good for the health of the tree (or shrubs). Well aged wood chips mulches are better than freshly chipped wood and hard wood better than soft woods. Please see attached fact sheets.
