Maple tree leaves turning yellow in the summer #743206

Asked April 08, 2021, 9:46 AM EDT

Hi my question is about maple trees I have a autumn blaze Maple and a fire fall maple both seem to be having the leaves turning yellow in the summer. I’ve been told this is an iron deficiency what can I do to turn the tide with my trees and not lose them. Please suggest all options of additive to the soil or sprays that would help me to bring my maple trees back with green leaves. Also how often should I do this treatment and when to apply to keep them healthy please email me any questions thank you

Expert Response

Hello Dan and thank you for your question,

Do you have any photos of the tree that you can share with us? A close up of the yellowing leaves and then a picture of the tree overall would be best. We would need to see these photos to have a better understanding of what's happening to your tree.

There are many factors that can contribute to yellowing leaves on a tree, not just an iron deficiency. Given the both early and late hard frosts we've had in the past years, as well as scorching hot dry summers, it's important to be focusing on cultural practices of care (winter watering during dry months, regular watering during the summer, etc) to help reduce stressors on the tree.

With that said, Autumn Blaze Maples are susceptible to iron chlorosis. I am including a link to information on Iron Chlorosis and treatment options:

Thank you

"Lawn concoctions" are not scientifically proven to work and are not recommended by CSU extension.  If you have a specific lawn concern, you can respond to this email, and we can give you recommendations for your lawn problem.

Thanks for your question.
