Hello and thank you for contacting us. There are a number of ferns that will grow in Willamette Valley. It depends on whether you are planting in sun or shade and how much soil moisture is available. The following information is for native species but I have no specific information about non-native ferns that grow well here.
Several native fern species are featured in this publication:
These two sites also provide information on native ferns:
One of the area nurseries suggests the following for shade:
- Polystichum munitum - Sword Fern
- Polypodium glycyrrhiza - Licorice Fern
- Adaitum pedatum - Maidenhair Fern
- Blechnum spicant - Deer Fern
- Woodwardia fimbriata - Giant Chain Fern
- Athyrium filix-femina - Lady Fern
Your best bet would be to search the internet or call local nurseries to see which ferns are available for purchase. If buying from small private sellers, be sure that the plants have been sustainably sourced and not moved from the wild.
I hope this information is helpful. Please write again if you have any other questions.
