Does extra strength Vinegar kill weeds #742843

Asked April 06, 2021, 4:21 PM EDT

I was told extra strength vinegar carried at Fort Collins Nursery kills weeds permanently. Is that true? It is very expensive, 32 ounces for $26.99. Is there a less expensive product or is there a way I can make a home remedy?

Hello,

Not sure what "extra strength" vinegar is, but horticulture vinegar, which is usually 15-20% acetic acid can be an effective weed control product. If the weeds are small, it may kill them with one application; if they are larger or more mature, it will take repeated applications. Hort vinegar is non-selective, so apply it to only weeds/undesirable plants.

If you do use this product, be very VERY careful. Wear long pants, long sleeves, gloves, and eye protection. Wearing a respirator would also be recommended. This product is very dangerous, as it contains a danger label.

I can't advise you on any of the homemade products. But they too would be non-selective and mostly effective on small weeds. Exercise extreme caution by mixing your own pesticides.

Thank you. Horticulture Vinegar is what I was referring to but didn’t have that term when I wrote.
