They usually are not considered to be a serious pest but more of a nuisance.  They need moisture, so drying out the places where they are breeding is one strategy for management.  You will need to clean the drain by removing the plate and scrubbbing out all the biofilm.  Follow that up with some boiling water.  

With the AC unit, the drain is probably clogged.  Clean it out and empty the pan that catches the overflow.  

The products you mentioned will not kill these flies, you have to get rid of the environment where they can thrive.
