You may have brown marmorated stink bugs. The adults have brown coloring and a shield shape, while your bugs look more elongated and are darker. However, the odor you describe is common with stink bugs, and the skink bugs adult nymphs are dark in color and more elongated.
Stink bugs are invasive insects which are highly harmful to plants. They overwinter inside to survive the season. For more information on this insect, see:

You can kill them by sweeping them into a bucket of soapy water. For information about how to eradicate them from your home, see:

Your bugs could be flour beetles, rather than stink bugs; flour beetles also emit a displeasing odor. The attached links provide information about and photos of these insects. The flour beetle photos look more similar to those you sent than do those of the brown marmorated stink bug, which I discussed in an earlier answer.
Managing them takes a different strategy, which is discussed in detail in the link, but basically you need to find and remove the source of the infestation. This could be a foodstuff of some kind, including grain products and dog food.
Hopefully you’ll know for sure from the photos provided in the answers to your question which pest this is and can act accordingly to remove it from your home.

We do feed the birds but keep the bird food in a glass jar or a tight plastic container. And I’m not seeing the bugs in those areas, we take the bird food outside to fill the feeders. It’s a very curious situation.

Thanks for the new information. It is difficult to say with certainty what these bugs are, but do check your skylight to see if there is any rotting wood that might be attracting them. You can vacuum them to remove them and search for openings where they might be entering from outside.
