I saw this tree while hik... #736137

I saw this tree while hiking in the CVNP near Penninsula, OH today. It was covered with a gel-like clear sap, wet, but not sticky. No scent. Reminded me of jellyfish, on one side of the tree. On the other side the sap had solidified and turned a golden orange brown color and hardened. I do not know the type of tree or what exactly this sap was. Other nearby trees of the same species did not have this appearance. Could you identify the tree for me and tell me what was going on? Thank you! (I have several good photos, but I can only upload one here. Let me know if more would help.) Carol Hunt
