Harvester Peach Tree disease #717435

Asked August 25, 2020, 1:54 PM EDT

Attached are a few images showing the issues I am having with my harvester peach tree I planted less than a year ago. The red spots have getting worse over time and now some leaves are beginning to yellow and drop. Are you able to help me identify the disease and what I can do to save the tree?

Expert Response

There are a number of reasons peach leaves may develop red spots and drop leaves. The first is peach leaf curl. This disease causes leaves to curl and drop. The best treatment options for homeowners are Bordeaux mixture, fixed coppers or lime-sulfur sprays. These need to be done during the dormant season, January or February. Another possible cause of the red spots is overwatering/nitrogen deficiency. These can go hand-in-hand as excessive rains will carry nitrogen away. Non-bearing trees should be fertilized in early May and again in mid-July. Fruiting trees should be fertilized between bloom and petal fall and again after harvest. Start with a dormant spray for leaf curl in the winter and adjust the fertilizer schedule and see if that helps. If not, contact the Currituck Co. Extension Office at<personal data hidden>.
