Help Identifying Bug on Patio #717000
Asked August 24, 2020, 1:35 PM EDT
Hi,
We live in South Boulder, near the open space. Recently, we have noticed an increase in the number of these very small gray bugs on our patio - especially on our table cloth and upholstered furniture. They don't seem to bite and they don't fly. Can someone help identify what bug this is and suggest how we get rid of it. Thank you for your help. Karen

I can't be sure without better photos or perhaps specimens sent to the CSU Plant Diagnostic Clinic (https://plantclinic.agsci.colostate.edu/). My best guess is an aphid or something similar, likely walking or being blown in from dried out vegetation. If I'm correct, then it is a temporary situation. Personally, I would use a vacuum if they build up to bothersome levels.
Dear Frank, Thank you for your quick response! I appreciate your taking the time to answer our question. Tonight, I put three of the bugs in a ziplock - hoping that these pictures will confirm (or change) your answer. The bugs are very small - the pictures are magnified 10x. Please let me know if these images change your thoughts. Thank you, thank you! Karen
I think I'll stick with my first answer, particularly regarding what you need to do about it. Thanks for the followup.
