We have a fungus on the trunk of a very large, old maple tree. From everything I’ve read it sounds like it’s called conk and means the tree is diseased and rotting from the inside out. Is this true. Can our tree be saved? If so, how?
Also, please advise if removal is the best option.

Expert Response
Hello,
This looks like some sort of rot, perhaps heart rot. I recommended you hire a certified arborist to give an exact diagnosis. He/she will come on site and give a complete diagnosis and a plant care plan. Find certified arborists by zip code here—-
