Leyland cypress has brown needles on the inside #716709

Asked August 23, 2020, 4:36 PM EDT

We have a row of 5 40 foot Leyland Cypress tress. They are always bright green on the outside, but for a few years now we have noticed that on the inside, close to the trunks the needles are mostly brown. Should we get them inspected for disease?

Expert Response

The browning needles on the inside of the Leland cypress ins normal and not a sign of a plant disease. Overall, the trees look very healthy!

If you find dead needles/branches unsightly, you can prune them out.

Good luck.
