We have a healthy cardinal flower growing on a south facing deck all summer attracting humming birds.
When can it be safely transplanted and how and when should we cut it back. ? Also, do you know of any vining or trailing varieties of cardinal flowers suitable for potting that actually attract hummers?
,Thanks for your consideration.

Expert Response
Fall or spring is a good time to transplant it after temps are cooler.
It should be cut back after it freezes. It is making and storing food until then.
