Honeylocust Yellowing Early #707115

Asked July 29, 2020, 6:01 PM EDT

I planted an imperial honeylocust tree last fall and turned green this spring. There were some branches that didn't make it through the harsh spring and had to be pruned. However, I just noticed that the tree is starting to yellow pretty early (end of July). I'm not sure if a disease or from OVER watering. I currently have my sprinkler set at every other day. Hopefully there is something that can be done to help the tree.

Thank you,

Hello,

The tree is stressed, likely because of it being recently planted, plus there is damage to the bark--this may have been from winter temperature fluctuations? Did you wrap the tree trunk last fall with paper wrap?

But really, the yellowing is very minor and we're getting to the end of our growing season. Our typical first frost is mid-September and the days are already getting shorter. The fall leaf color process may be expedited with your tree because of the stress (planting, trunk damage). So this is normal. Plus it's been so hot that trees are shedding extra leaves they don't need.

Just keep an eye on thing and wrap the tree with paper wrap around Thanksgiving--remove in mid-April.
