Curled leaves on viburnum snowball bush #702884

Asked July 20, 2020, 12:56 AM EDT

Hi, this snowball Bush is about 4-5 years old but has never been too happy. This year it didn’t blossom at all and the leaves are slightly curled. I don’t see any insects on it. I don’t know if the curled leaves could be a result of the late freeze this spring. I noticed this also on my lilac tree.
I feed this bush and give it compost in the spring, It’s in a partly sunny spot but with some shade. It gets water a little water 2-3 times a week on a soaker hose. Any advice or suggestions?

Expert Response

That looks like the shrub is not receiving enough water. Plants can take a beating with our hot sun, dry conditions or hot windy weather and as we all know, it has been very hot. Make sure to keep the plants evenly moist at all times. You may need to check the soil daily to make sure that the drip system is keeping the soil moist. Make sure that the shrubs are watered year round, here is a fact sheet with more information: https://extension.colostate.edu/docs/pubs/garden/07211.pdf
