Is this an invasive species? Native to the west coast? The two most similar beetles that came up on a beetle ID site (after nothing similar for Maryland came up) are both native to the west coast. California Root Borer Beetle was one of them. I forget the other one.
Montgomery County Maryland
Expert Response
This looks like a brown prionid longhorned beetle (Orthosoma brunneum). Many of the longhorned beetles are active as adults in June and early July. They are attracted to lights and sometimes wanter into people's houses but they are not an indoor pest. The larva feed on decaying wood. They are not a threat to healthy trees. This species is native here, not invasive.
