Norfork pine below freezing temperatures #681569

Asked February 23, 2021, 5:09 PM EST

I had a Norfolk Pine I bought at Wal-Mart 4 years ago. It was only 2 ft tall. This year it has reached 5 ft tall. Beautiful tree . I have it in a pot with very good soil. We experienced a hard freeze for 4 days. Even though I did everything in my power to protect it , it still froze . The best way I can describe it is all the sprigs are now a lovely burnt color. Should I cut all this off??? And what are the chances of it recovering or do I just call it a lost cause? Thank you, Sue

I'm so sorry to hear about your Norfolk pine.  Being a subtropical tree, it has probably died.  You could keep it for another month and see if it starts to show any any green, then if it does, prune off any parts that are definitely dead.  Even if it does survive though, it is unlikely to have the lovely shape it does now.

Thank you for your quick response. I will do exactly that. Cut off all dead and see within a month what it will do. Be safe
Sincerely, Sue
