woodpecker pecking on house #679153

Asked January 14, 2021, 10:05 PM EST

A woodpecker is pecking on our house every day. Someone told me that can indicate a sign of pests/termites. What type of professional should I contact.  This is freaking me out.

Depending on the material your home exterior is made from, it's probable the bird is pecking for reasons other than foraging. The two links below give some information about woodpeckers in the yard/garden and their occasionally-inconvenient behaviors.

If you have concerns about structural integrity of the house due to other signs of damage (especially water damage, which often precedes insect or fungal issues), consulting a home inspector or pest control professional would be prudent. If problems persist, you can reach out to the personnel at the DNR's Nuisance Wildlife hotline, who may have additional tips or suggestions based on experience with local birds. https://dnr.maryland.gov/wildlife/Pages/plants_wildlife/wildlifeproblems.aspx
