Dying Maple Tree #679002

Greetings,
This is a follow up on previous question 690243 regarding a dying maple tree probably caused by Verticillium wilt. The tree has now been cut, revealing a dark center in the stem (attached). Is this cross section appearance sufficient to diagnose the wilt? Or should I send a sample of the rotten center wood? If so, to what address?
Thank you and best regards,
Dietmar

Expert Response
Verticillium wilt is right under the bark in the vascular tissue (the outer, water-conducting wood immediately under the bark) and is not in the center of the wood. This looks like the tree was stressed from other issues that led to decline and this is not verticillium wilt.
