There are many beautiful ornamental native grasses available. Take a look at our web page about grasses for several ideas. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/ornamental-and-native-grasses-landscape
This publication is also an excellent resource for selection of grasses and grass-like plants that are native and adapted to Maryland conditions. https://www.fws.gov/chesapeakebay/pdf/NativePlantsforWildlifeHabitatandConservationLandscaping.pdf
You will have to take into consideration the amount of sun on the planting site as well as the soil conditions. For example, if the area tends to stay moist/wet, you might consider using sedges rather than grasses. Choices for ornamental grasses that will grow in the shade are somewhat limited. In shade, you might also consider using groundcover plants like Christmas ferns or golden groundsel, which are very nice in a woodland setting.
