Drooping tree? #677651

Asked November 23, 2020, 12:41 PM EST

Hi, Attached are pictures of 2 trees that frame our front door. One has suddenly gotten very droopy, as you can see. Until the heavy snow we had in October, it looked just like the other one. None of the branches seem to be broken. I thought at first this was from the heavy snow, but they never bounced back up. I'd appreciate any suggestions if there is something I can do for Droopy. thank you!! Marty Chester Mpls.

Expert Response

Drooping from snow is slow to recover. It can be helped along by gently tying up the branches that are drooping. Pull the branches up until they resist and stop then gradually pull them up more after waiting a few weeks. I would do this until they can be bound enough to protect from another heavy, wet snowfall. I know the fact sheet says not to tie them up, hence the compromise to make very gradual changes. It’s a bit like braces for teeth.
