Fertilizing an orchid [#0000414} #677573

Asked 2020-11-20 19:28:46

I received an orchid in Sept. and have not fertilized it yet. The fertilizers I have are Miracle Gro African Violet Food 7-7-7 and Schultz Plant Food 10-15-10. I am sequestered so I won’t be shopping for an orchid fertilizer. Which of my choices would you recommend I use and how much? Both are liquids. I just cut back one stem that had lost its flowers. The other stem has one flower on it so I am leaving that one alone.

Expert Response

Orchid fertilizer is available on Amazon and highly recommended by Orchids Unlimited in Plymouth MN. It would be best to use an orchid fertilizer or none.

It is 1-0-1. Orchids get their minerals from rain water so your orchids will do better without fertilizer that is too strong. Buy some orchid fertilizer by mail or wait until going out is safe again.
Here is a little help. There are many helpful videos on You Tube as well.
