matador maple tree mulch #676876

Asked October 31, 2020, 2:24 PM EDT

I planted a matador Maple tree in Sept. The nursery said I should put mulch around the tree and that using leaves would be ok. #1 Do I need to remove the leaves now? #2 Should I still be watering the tree? Thank you Terri

Expert Response

Water the tree as needed until the soil freezes.

Do not remove the leaves. However, shredded hardwood, wood chips or other wood-based mulch will last longer.
