Weird infestation on Apple fruit #675956

Asked October 05, 2020, 8:18 PM EDT

An apple in our back yard has this strange infestation. They look like tiny anemones on the skin of the fruit in a cluster. What is this?

Washington County Minnesota

Expert Response

I think it is the remnants of Cedar Apple Rust.https://extension.umn.edu/plant-diseases/cedar-apple-rust

Do you have any Cedar Trees in the vicinity of your apple trees?

Thank you.  No cedar tree in the yard here,  maybe in other yards. I couldn't find any pictures of this occurring in actual apples.
