Hi, I have a magnificent Magnolia tree that is about 40' high and at least 30-40 years old. I wish to trim the lower two branches to give more light. I understand that Magnolia tree wounds heal very very slowly. So, when is the best time to cut the limbs and can I apply something to the sawn spot on the tree? Best, Andrew

Hello!
Thank you for contacting Ask Extension.
Trees and shrubs that bloom early in the growing season on last year's growth - like magnolia trees - should be pruned immediately after they finish blooming.
