Wasp identification, infestation resolution #675480

Asked September 21, 2020, 2:00 PM EDT

Hello. In Crystal Mn we have what appears to be small wasps nesting under our home siding. I managed to vacuum/kill about 300 at their entrance in less than 90 minutes, but they're still coming in. Can you please identify the species for us so we can know what we're dealing with? I've attached 2 photos. They haven't been at all aggressive--so far. If they're going to die out in the winter anyway then we'll ignore it, otherwise we'd like to get rid of the little monsters. Exactly where they're nesting is a mystery to us, we think they've found a cavity under the siding. Any useful info you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

The insect in the photo is a kind of yellowjacket. Go here to learn about them:https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/insect/garden/flies/medium/yellowjacket.htmlYellowjackets can be aggressive and they deliver a painful sting.  However, as you mentioned, the first hard frost will kill those that are present under the siding. Queens that survive the winter will establish new nests in the spring but plugging the entrance hole will prevent another infestation there.
