Cedar hedges #669340

Asked July 27, 2020, 12:35 PM EDT

Hi, Planted some cedar hedges this spring and all was going well. About a month ago, 1 hedge seemed to be dying, then the ones beside it. Now it looks like a 4th is on its way.
I tried spraying for mites and every few days hose off the branches to knock any mites off.
But I am not sure that is the problem.
Please see pics.  Is something else causing it and should i take out the dead/almost dead ones.

hi thanks for contacting us at the WSU Whatcom Master Gardener Plant Clinic
this is an Arborvitae hedge and if its a new planting it should not have died so quickly
Do you see any Mites on the plants?
i would suggest looking at our WSU Hortsense page on this plant
here is a link to it and i pulled up spider mites- there are other problems that Arborvitae are prone to but i dont want to assume until we know more.
if could be a fungal blight
have you been watering it?  contact me directly if you want to submit a sample or talk via phone -- im in the Bellingham office
