Without a picture it is hard for me to confirm, as I am not sure exactly which field you are referencing. That being said with full bloom this time of year I would guess Crimson Clover, which can vary in it's shade of purple. Does the photo attached look right?

It isn’t Crimson clover I’ll try to post pics
Oooohh, that is LOVELY! That is a large field of Phacelia (one of my favorite flowers and a favorite of the bees/beneficial insects). They may be growing it as a cover crop, soil stabilizer, or for seed. What a stunning sight, thanks for getting a photo.
