ash tree #659526

Asked July 03, 2020, 7:28 PM EDT

is this an ash tree? does it look like the emerald ash borer (?) has killed it? If yes, is the only option to cut it down? Thanks... Steve Adamsky Lake Elmo, MN

Expert Response

The leaves I can see look like ash leaves but they are so distorted it is hard to be sure. Your tree does have a problem. The thinning canopy is a symptom. You need to have a certified arborist come out and make a house call to diagnose the problem. Emerald ash borers leave a D shaped exit hole. But there could be other reasons. Go to this web site and click on Find An Arborist. Once your location information is entered a list of certified arborists in your area will appear. https://www.treesaregood.org/
