Asked July 02, 2020, 11:33 AM EDT

I have a weed that started growing in my yard In the last 3 or 4 years. I have been using a Roundup type of weed killer but is takes several applications to knock it back. I would like to know what it it and how best to eradicate it.

Expert Response

This looks like marestail (horseweed).  It is an annual weed and plants germinate in either fall or spring.  There are reports of glyphosate (Roundup) resistant marestail.  You might try switching to a herbicide with a different active ingredient. Chose herbicides that target broad-leafed weeds and ensure that marestail (horseweed) is included among the weeds controlled. Some weeds require multiple applications of herbicide for control.
