I have two dappled willow bushes, about 12 years old. Recently, the tips of the branches are turning brown, with leaf loss. Even on new growth, after pruning over a month ago. I also noted some tiny red spots on the trunk and branches.

Hi,
Willows get a lot of disease and insect problems. For the most part, they will come back as they are a pretty tough species of plants. I can't tell what the problem is from your pictures. To see if a plant has a disease, one would look at infected parts under a hand lens or microscope or even run some diagnostic tests. Unless more than 50 % of the plant was affected, I would not do anything but make sure plants get watered once every 7 to 10 days if no natural rainfall occurs (keep leaved dry). I would cut out infected branches and just see what happens. If you want a more accurate diagnosis, you can try contacting the Cornell Plant Disease Diagnostic lab.
