Asked June 25, 2020, 2:03 PM EDT

What can I do to stop this and save the tree? I do not want to cut it down.

Cecil County Maryland

Expert Response

The foliage looks like it is exhibiting symptoms of Taphrina caerulescens, oak leaf blister, a fungal disease. Fungal infections occur in the early spring on newly expanding leaves and are favored by cool, wet environmental conditions. Infections have been recorded on over 50 different species of oak belonging to both the white oak and red oak groups. Heavy infections mar their appearance but do not endanger the overall health of the tree. No treatment is necessary.  https://bygl.osu.edu/index.php/node/1613
