Hi,
My cucumber plants are dying, the stem is either splitting open or something is eating it. The stems are opening up and then the plant dies. I have a attached a picture of stems. I hope you can help me save my plants!

Thank you for the question. There are a few reasons for vines to split. This split does not show the oozing of gummy stem blight or the frass of squash vine borer. Abiotic problems such as fast growth or uneven watering is more likely. Even temperatures and water will help. Another consideration is wind which can pull and twist a plant till the stem splits. You can try pinning down the vines. Covering the split stem with dirt can stimulate root growth and help the plant survive. Here are some links on the gummy stem blight and squash vine borer:
