Yellow wood, leaves drying up #655289

Asked June 23, 2020, 9:24 PM EDT

The tips of the leaves on my tree are turning brown and are droping. What’s the problem? The leaves are yellow all over tree.

Expert Response

Yellow wood trees have very few diseases other than root rot. If the area didnt drain well during 2018-June 2019 then the roots may have been sitting in water at various times. After the high temps of July - August combined with drought, the likely went into winter in stress. We also had a wet spring this year and now that hot weather has set in the tree may not have a root system up to supporting it.

If you want to check for disease then you can bring a branch with affected leaves and healthy leaves on it in a bag into the office at the address below. We have a table out front for you to fill out a plant disease form, after the form has been filled out place in the bag with your sample and leave on the table. As we cannot see you face to face due to CDC guidelines, we check the table several times daily.
