Is this a fungus? #653842

Asked June 20, 2020, 10:25 PM EDT

We live in the country south of Salem and this is coming up in our back pasture. It is solid and not flexible. Any idea what it might be? Need any more information?

Thank you for the images.

These are Indian Pipes (Monotropa uniflora), sometimes called the Ghost Plant because of its lack of chlorophyll. It's a wildflower and is a parasitic plant with an interesting life cycle. See the details at https://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/oct2002.html.
