Remove William Baffin Rose #652680

Asked June 18, 2020, 11:28 AM EDT

We have a William Baffin Rose that we need to remove.  I have tried digging them out in the past and they always come back.

How can I permanently remove this plant?

Hennepin County Minnesota

Expert Response

William Baffin is highly prized in our area because of its hardiness.  To remove it you will have to dig out all roots, which could be quite extensive.  Or you could cut the canes back to just above the ground and then paint the fresh cuts with a non-selective herbicide like Round Up.

Thanks for the quick response. Don't think I'll ever get all the roots.  Guess I'll have to wait until it emerges again next year and resort to Round Up.

We do have two other bushes that we have trimmed back and will try get them to return to their former glory.  They have gotten straggly the last couple years.
