Blue Beech #648006

Asked June 08, 2020, 5:26 PM EDT

Hello, I have a Blue Beech Tree in my front yard. It is on the west facing side of our house so it gets most of the hot afternoon sun. This spring, the tree came back with leaves only on half of the tree. The leaves that are on there now have began to fall off. They have some brown spots and a small amount of leaves have holes in them or missing pieces to the leaves. I have a few questions. Can you identify what is wrong with the tree? Is there anything I can do to save it?

Expert Response

Blue beech are great trees. It looks like there's been some damage that causing dieback. It's not possible to say much more online, so I recommend you hire a tree care professional to come and assess the tree. We have a helpful webpage that provides some good info and a resource for finding a certified arborist in your area: www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/trees-shrubs/how-to-hire-a-professional-arborist/
