Insect identification #646998

The bees or wasps shown in the attached image appear to have a home in the soffit located about 8' above the deck at the entrance to our house. As we plan to spent a lot of time in that area with our 1year-old grandson during the summer, I am wondering if these insects are aggressive and prone to stinging. When we sit in this area, generally one of these insects buzzes around us. If they are prone to stinging, is there a way to control, or remove them? Any information you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you.

This is common yellow jacket wasp. They can sting multiple times and are very protective of their nests. The following website gives information on removing nests. You could hire a company that specializes in removal of insect pests such as these. See: https://extension.umn.edu/insects-infest-homes/wasps-and-bees
