Hi. Can you tell me what’s happening to my tomato plants? They’re in a community garden, and I notice the same thing is happening to others’ tomatoes. Thanks.

The small holes in the tomato leaves are caused by flea beetles, very small, dark beetles which make tiny holes in the leaves of various vegetables.
Damage has the greatest impact on young seedling tomatoes. Floating row cover, secured all around the edges, may be sufficient to protect them until they get to the 6-leaf stage. Larger tomato plants can tolerate the damage. Everyone in the community garden should clear out all tomato plant debris at the end of the season.
