Mushrooms in Yard #645635

Asked June 03, 2020, 7:35 PM EDT

I was wondering if you could please help me to identify what type of mushrooms these are, what is causing them and how can I get rid of them?  They are growing in the rocks and along the edge of the grass in my south-facing backyard.  I can pull them up but then I will find more in the same general area a week or so later. Thank you.

Hi,

CSU Extension cannot identify mushrooms, but if you really want to know the species you can see if the Denver Mycological Society can assist: https://cmsweb.org/

The mushrooms are there because of something organic they are feeding on. Was there a tree removed in the area? Tree roots can sprout mushrooms due to decomposition. Or perhaps the area is too wet. We sometimes see mushroom growth as a result.

But what you're doing, by removing them and throwing them away is the right solution. If you're concerned, wear gloves. But doing this on a regular basis should deplete the food supply.
